Four Girls in a Hot Tub on a Winter Night

The stars awakened brighter here

than they did in my backyard,

where the streetlights drowned them in lazy clouds.

The sky consumed my eyes

reaching to the half moon above

the white rounded hill

that fell into the trees.

The wind stole the steam

as it rose from our bodies.

Hot water bubbled over us,

leaving lightly rolled shoulders

to shiver in the frozen air.

Red faces giggled out secrets

that dare not be written here

as dreams through our eyelashes

fluttered into the quickly turning sky,

and we rose away with them,

watching the hot tub sink into the flowing snow.
