A-Rod--Determined to Damage a Pitcher’s ERA

is hurting baseballs more fluently
than ever, denying Derek Jeter, the most-clutch Yankee,
performing the solo act as the only player
to smack 500 dingers at 32 years young,
drawing the talk shows and bandwagon fans
back on his side as the Bronx boos
transform to “Let’s Go, A-Rod!”—
as Davies attempts to relax
his shoulders, barely remembering to breathe,
and fires the pitch he will regret in his dreams:
a low fastball that A-Rod crushes
to left field, and stands with a sellout Yankee Stadium
to see if history is fair, then with relief and a wide smile
touches all the bases for the 500th time.
